Role Summary
The Construction Safety Specialist will support a complex, high-hazard industrial construction environment. This role requires a field-forward safety professional who is technically strong, execution-oriented, and thrives in fast-moving, engineering-driven settings. This is not a policy-only, “office-based” safety job — the ideal candidate has real, heavy construction field experience and can influence safety through leadership on the deckplates.
Primary Responsibilities
• Lead field-based safety activities within an active multi-level industrial construction site
• Conduct daily site walks and hazard recognition activities (steel, civil, rigging, excavation, etc.)
• Support JHA/JSA reviews and field verification of work controls
• Provide field safety coaching to trades and craft — not just compliance auditing
• Identify and correct hazards in real time within high-change environments
• Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
• Ensure applicable OSHA 1926 compliance and safe work planning for critical lifts, hot work, confined space, and energized system work
• Maintain strong working partnerships with construction management, field engineering, vendors, and trades
Required Competencies / Skills / Knowledge
• 5–10 years of construction safety experience in refinery, structural steel, heavy civil, and/or industrial build-out environments
• Demonstrated field presence — credible walking complex industrial jobsites day one
• Able to remain composed and confident when pressured technically or operationally (interviews for this role will pressure test this)
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA 1926 standards and field application of those standards
• Capable of physically accessing multi-level structures — climbing stairs/elevated areas is required
• Clear, direct communicator — confident but not arrogant or defensive
• OSHA 30 minimum
Preferred / Nice-To-Have
• CHST, CSP, CIH or progress toward certification
• Experience in highly engineered, aerospace-adjacent, or advanced industrial project settings
• Advanced technical exposure to cranes/rigging, elevated work, excavation, LOTO, high-hazard operations
• Experience that includes both field execution + program/administrative understanding (but field strength is weighted heavier)
Note: Individuals whose experience is primarily owner-operator corporate oversight (policy writing, auditing programs at a distance) generally do not perform well in this environment unless they also have meaningful, boots-on-the-ground construction safety experience.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand/walk outdoors for extended periods
• Ability to navigate stairs, ladders, uneven working surfaces, and elevated structures
• Ability to work in heat, cold, humidity, wind, and active heavy construction conditions
Our positions are “safety-sensitive,” and drug testing is a requirement for employment.
