Job Description

Fresh Baguette is a fast-growing, artisanal bakery known for its high-quality standards and modern atmosphere. The company was founded in Bethesda, MD in 2013, to bring fresh, made-from-scratch organic breads, pastries, sweets, and croissant items inspired by bakeries in France to the DMV area. We have expanded to eight retail locations, two production bakeries, and a thriving wholesale business. We serve coffee shops, restaurants, hotels, and grocery stores with fresh products every day, 365 days a year.

Our obsession with quality is part of the passion here at Fresh Baguette. Take, for example, the process of making our signature baguettes: a cold-dough process that produces unique flavors, homemade “levain”, and made using state-of-the-art equipment imported from France. The end result is a baguette that is authentic with moisture and just the right crunch. In addition, it takes two days, 11 steps, carefully selected ingredients, and the skill of a pastry chef to make our soft and flaky, mouthwateringly tender croissant.

Our master pastry chef leaves nothing to chance and uses the best French techniques in everything we create for our guests. 

About The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Pastry Assistant to join our Pastry department at our Fr esh Baguette Rockville production center (804 Hungerford Dr, Rockville, MD 20850). The Pastry Assistant's role is to support the Pastry Chefs in their daily operations. As a Pastry Assistant, you will be responsible for creating, preparing, producing and baking all pastries and desserts for the bakery to deliver outstanding guest experiences and financial profitability. Products vary from éclairs , tarts, cannelé , mousses, ganaches, meringues, and more.

Pay: $17.65 per hour

What You'll Do

  • Work in a team environment to follow recipes and standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain tools and personal hygiene to ensure food safety and quality standards.
  • Prepare flour and other baking ingredients, either manually or with the assistance of commercial bakery equipment.
  • Shape dough to bake a variety of bread and other baked goods.
  • Operate commercial bakery equipment, including mixers, blenders, ovens and cookers
  • Work efficiently and quickly to meet production targets and deadlines.
  • Ensure strict adherence to food safety guidelines and hygiene practices during all operations.
  • Follow clear written procedures when handling recipes.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the bakery area.

Hours

  • Open flexibility to work Tuesday-Sunday between 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM
  • 5 days a week
  • 7-8 hour shift
  • Early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required

Qualifications

  • No prior professional experience required.
  • A fast learner with a positive attitude and a proven ability to adapt.
  • Team-oriented mindset and ability to collaborate with others effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and reliability in executing tasks accurately.
  • Ability to follow procedures and adhere to detailed instructions without deviation.
  • Capability to comply with food safety guidelines consistently.
  • Punctual, dependable, and committed to maintaining a high level of productivity.
  • Physical endurance to meet demands of fast-paced and labor-intensive role

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • Open availability to work a variety of shifts, including weekends, mornings, and afternoons
  • Availability to work on Holidays and during peak business periods - Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, etc.
  • Ability to perform heavy work such as lifting 50lbs+, bending, reaching, and standing for 8hours+
  • Reliable transportation to work
  • Reading, writing, speaking, listening comprehension proficiency in English
