Job Description

Full-Time Elementary or Middle School Guide (Teacher) at Acton Academy Silicon Valley

Description:

Do you want to change the world? Are you passionate about fostering a love of learning in others through creativity, insightful questioning, and real-life applications? Join our mission-driven, world-class team at Acton Academy Silicon Valley and be part of one of the world’s most innovative schools.

Acton Academy Silicon Valley Overview:

Founded in 2021, Acton Academy Silicon Valley is a private independent-school and learner-driven community committed to helping each person find their calling and make a difference. We are part of the larger Acton Academy Global Network or over 300 schools that are each independently owned & operated. We blend the Montessori method with Socratic guiding, hands-on experiential quests, and interactive technology, all rooted in the Hero’s Journey framework. Acton Academy Silicon Valley is located in Redwood City.

Our Approach:

At Acton Academy Silicon Valley, we have mixed-aged classrooms called studios, promoting self-paced learning rather than grade levels. Our real-world quests culminate in public exhibitions of learning instead of test scores and report cards. Students are empowered to take charge of their learning journey.

Position: Guide Upper Elementary Mixed Age Class (Ages 7-12) or Guide for Middle School Mixed Age Class (Ages 12-14)

We are seeking a Full-Time Guide (see our site on how it differs from Teacher) to work with our learners . Our Guides have the opportunity to grow quickly and take on a leadership role on our campus.

Key Responsibilities:

- Guide young people on their independent journey of lifelong learning by asking insightful questions.

- Lead Socratic discussions and work with the Acton Academy SV learning design, processes, and systems.

- Equip our Learners to explore and take ownership of their learning, monitor progress, and create life-oriented projects that nurture curiosity.

- Commit to personal and professional growth by attending self-paced online and in-person offsite training.

Commitments:

Your promises to us:

- Encourage every child to prepare for their “calling” that will change the world.

- Show up prepared and on time during our school calendar.

- Emphasize “learning to be,” “learning to know,” and “learning to do.”

- Encourage children to find answers to their own questions.

- Respect each child’s pace and allow opportunities for success and failure.

- Ask questions that foster truth-seeking and discipline.

- Be a role model without providing all the answers.

Our promises to you:

- Support your personal Hero’s Journey.

- Foster open communication between you and the parents.

- Provide pre-start training for your first quarter in the studio.

- Offer a full review every three months.

- Maintain a work environment that supports team spirit, open communication, honor, work-life balance, and ongoing training and development.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

- Experience coaching mixed-age groups of young people.

- Ability to implement and execute projects and gamify challenges.

- Experience with coaching or mentoring and systematizing processes is a plus.

- Passion for innovative educational opportunities.

- Deep curiosity and readiness to learn and work hard.

- Proficiency with online learning.

- Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills.

- Entrepreneurial thinking.

- Avid reader.

- Trust in young people’s ability to learn independently.

- Kind-hearted and tough-minded.

- Independent worker with a calm demeanor.

Job Type: Full-Time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year based on experience

Benefits:

- Generous Paid time off
