About the role ETRO Construction is seeking multiple Construction Safety Officers to join our Field Operations team. This role is key to maintaining a safe and compliant work environment across our projects. The Construction Safety Officer is responsible for identifying and mitigating hazards, enforcing ETRO's safety policies, and fostering a culture of accountability and care on-site.
Working closely with Site Leadership, the OH&S Lead, and Project Management teams, this position ensures compliance with all health and safety regulations, conducts inspections and investigations, and delivers safety training and orientations to field teams and subcontractors.
What you'll do - Support and implement ETRO's Health & Safety Program across assigned projects.
- Conduct regular site inspections and enforce safety standards and provincial regulations.
- Lead orientations for all new workers and subcontractors on-site.
- Conduct risk assessments and proactively address potential hazards.
- Stop unsafe acts or processes immediately when identified.
- Investigate and document workplace incidents and near-misses, identifying root causes and corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, inspections, and compliance documentation.
- Facilitate toolbox talks, safety meetings, and training sessions to promote ongoing awareness.
- Assist in developing and reviewing Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs), Safe Work Practices (SWPs), and Safe Job Procedures (SJPs).
- Monitor subcontractor compliance and support audits of site safety performance.
What you bring - Education: Degree, diploma, or certification in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) preferred.
- Experience: 4-5 years of health and safety experience within the construction industry.
- Industry: Experience working on multi-family or mid-rise projects with public interface.
- Certifications: Current Advanced First Aid certification; NCSO certification (or in progress).
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of BC OH&S regulations and industry best practices.
- Technical: Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety compliance software.
- Skills: Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Abilities: Strong documentation, organization, and training capabilities.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead by example and promote a culture of safety.
