Job Description

Position Title: Carpenter (Formwork / Scaffolding)

Location: Guam

Employment Type: Contract/ Non-Exempt

Position Summary

The Carpenter (Formwork / Scaffolding) is responsible for constructing, erecting, and maintaining formwork and scaffolding systems for various concrete structures including spread footings, slabs, walls, and ceilings. This position plays a key role in ensuring safe and precise form construction, accurate alignment, and compliance with all applicable codes and safety standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Build, assemble, and dismantle formwork for foundations, slabs, walls, beams, and other concrete structures.
  • Erect and secure scaffolding systems to provide safe access for construction activities.
  • Measure, cut, and install lumber, plywood, and other materials according to specifications and project drawings.
  • Work with foremen and layout crews to confirm elevations, slopes, and tolerances prior to concrete placement.
  • Ensure forms are properly aligned, braced, and constructed to maintain structural integrity during concrete pours.
  • Clean and prepare work areas, removing debris and maintaining a safe, organized job site.
  • Inspect and maintain formwork and scaffolding materials for damage or defects before use.
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in formwork, concrete carpentry, or related construction trades.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints, drawings, and layout specifications.
  • Strong working knowledge of hand and power tools used in formwork and scaffolding.
  • Physically capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to work at heights and perform physically demanding tasks including bending, kneeling, and climbing.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly in English and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions while maintaining productivity and safety.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with engineered formwork systems and scaffold erection standards.
  • Familiarity with concrete finishing processes and materials handling equipment.
  • Certification in fall protection or scaffolding safety (a plus).
