Job Purpose and Scope

The Benefits Specialist supports the day-to-day administration of employee benefit programs and plays an active role in enhancing the overall employee experience. This position works closely with the Benefits Manager to ensure programs are compliant, cost-effective, and well-communicated. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, people-focused, and motivated to make a difference by helping employees understand and maximize their benefits.

Essential Job Functions

  • Administer employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, and wellness initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee benefit questions, claims issues, and eligibility inquiries.
  • Support new hire onboarding by clearly explaining benefit options and assisting with enrollment.
  • Assist with open enrollment activities—helping coordinate communication, education sessions, and system updates.
  • Prepare and distribute benefits communications that are clear, accurate, and compliant with applicable laws.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and state benefit regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Audit benefits data regularly to ensure accuracy and alignment across systems and vendors.
  • Partner with external vendors and carriers to resolve issues and improve employee experiences.
  • Gather and analyze benefits data and trends to identify opportunities for process improvement or cost savings.
  • Contribute to benefits projects and initiatives that promote employee engagement and well-being.
  • Provide administrative support to the Benefits team as needed.

Position Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in benefits administration or HR with a strong understanding of benefits processes and compliance.
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA, ACA, and COBRA regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and benefits administration systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to explain complex information clearly.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, handle sensitive information, and work both independently and collaboratively.
