A highly respected industrial company based in Philadelphia is seeking an experienced in-house attorney to join its legal department as Assistant General Counsel. This is a rare opportunity to take on a broad and impactful role supporting a seasoned General Counsel in a fast-paced and growing environment. The company, now under new ownership by a major international conglomerate, is rapidly scaling its operations and investing heavily in infrastructure and personnel.
About the Role
The Associate General Counsel will handle a wide variety of legal matters, from reviewing contracts and advising on employment issues to managing outside counsel and supporting corporate governance. The ideal candidate will be a business-savvy legal generalist who enjoys working closely with senior leadership and rolling up their sleeves in a dynamic industrial setting.
Responsibilities
• Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts (sales, supply, consulting, procurement)
• Provide day-to-day legal advice to the General Counsel and business leaders
• Advise on compliance, labor & employment, and corporate governance matters
• Manage outside counsel and oversee ongoing litigation or claims
• Support internal policy development and risk management
• Participate in cross-border communications with foreign headquarters; flexible hours as needed
• Assist with government contracting matters and strategic initiatives
Ideal Candidate
• 5–7+ years of legal experience (law firm / in-house) with strong corporate focus
• Juris Doctor and active bar license in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
• Comfortable working independently in a small legal team
• Excellent drafting, issue-spotting, and problem-solving skills
• Familiarity with industrial/manufacturing environments is a plus
• Must be based in or willing to commute to the Philadelphia area
